S-HLC congratulate new History PhD Shaun Allan

Staff of the School of Histories, Languages and Cultures are today warmly congratulating Shaun Allan who has successfully defended his PhD thesis on the Territorial Army. The thesis is titled: “Part-time defenders of the Realm: Is the history of the Territorial Army a likely indicator of Future Reserves 2020 success?”

Shaun is a former Royal Marine who after leaving the Armed Forces became an undergraduate at Hull in 2008, gained his BA (Hons) History and then went on to do an MA also at Hull.

The external examiner was Cardiff’s Dr Victoria Basham and the internal examiner was Dr Jenny Macleod. Shaun’s supervisors were Catherine Baker and Professor Greg Bankoff.
